How to get to the Catacombs of San Gennaro

By metro and bus
Take Metro Line 1 or Line 2 to Museo / Cavour, beside the National Archaeological Museum. From there it’s a 15–20 minute walk uphill, or a short hop on one of the city buses that run up Via Capodimonte toward the royal palace and museum. Get off near the Basilica del Buon Consiglio.
On foot and by taxi
From the centro storico it’s a scenic 30-minute walk through the Sanità — pleasant downhill on the way back. A taxi from the centre or station is quick and inexpensive, and worth it for the uphill leg or if you’re short on time. Tell the driver Catacombe di San Gennaro, Via Capodimonte.
Finding the entrance
The ticket office is at the foot of the grand staircase of the Basilica del Buon Consiglio (a smaller echo of St Peter’s). Look for the catacombs signs to the side of the church, not the church doors. Arrive about 15 minutes before your slot.
Combine it with Capodimonte: the museum and its park are just up the same road, so many visitors do the catacombs in the morning and the palace afterwards.
Book your slot first
